Trekking / Technical Climbing

TREKKING INFORMATION

Seasons and Weather Conditions
The best time to visit Kenya is during the dry season, especially just after the rains have finished. The dry seasons run from June to Late September, and from December to February, although as climatic conditions become more unpredictable many trekkers also visit Mount Kenya / Mount Kilimanjaro during March, October and November. Daytime temperatures on the lower parts of the mountain are often pleasantly warm, although brief rain in the afternoon is always possible. As soon as the sun drops the air becomes very cold. At night, and on the higher parts of the mountain, temperatures often drop well below freezing point, so warm clothes and sleeping bags are essential.

Altitude
Although many thousands of trekkers successfully reach their peaks every year without any real difficulty, many others don’t make it to the top because they suffer from altitude sickness. To avoid this, it is very important to acclimatise by ascending slowly and steadily. Even if you’re fit, you should not try to rush up Mount Kenya.

Maps & Guidebooks
The Ordnance Survey Worldmaps Series (1:100.000) is recommended. For comprehensive background information and specific route details, “Trekking in East-Africa” (published by Lonely Planet) is recommended. The “Guide to Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro” (published by the Mountain Club of Kenya). Is mainly for technical mountaineers, but also has information on glaciation, geology, wildlife, etc.

Travel special “Meet the Kenyans”

“MEET  THE  KENYANS”

We are proud to present “Meet the Kenyans”. Most people like a nice beach holiday or a cool safari. Over the years, the tourism activities in the country have focused on leisure and safari.

‘Meet the Kenyans’ (MTK) is an original idea focused at integrating the cream of the travel industry, i.e. safari and leisure, with community development projects all over the country. The idea revolves around an individuals self will and motivation, to give a helping hand to rural communities through assisting in stalled or MTK initiated projects.

Participants in the programme will gain from a direct interaction with the Kenyan people as they live and work together. At the same time there will be two weeks, one being optional, of which participants will have ample time to discover safari routes in the country and the white beaches of the Kenyan coast.

Apart from this programme, we offer flexible programmes of the same activities depending on the number of days one has. This is possible for a group or even an individual.

MTK promises to be an exciting new way of adventure, lined with community development activities aimed at bettering the lives of the people you meet.

CARHIRE

The history of car hire is probably the longest in the tourist circuits all over the world.

Part of the reason is the privacy and flexibility that it accords the clients ‘any time, all the time’.
